LAMN Conference Highlights by Carli Stensrud
This Fall, I had the opportunity to hear Adam Markel, a keynote speaker who is a recognized expert in professional and personal reinvention, speak at a conference on the topic of resilience. Adam’s take on resilience has left a lasting impression on me. As we know, taking care of people in Assisted Living and Group Homes during the last few years has required a lot of resilience.
What I learned is resilience is not how you endure but how you recharge. Oftentimes people think they just have to “power through” without any breaks when they are experiencing stressful times. The truth is, even 5 minutes of recharging time can make you more resilient and more able to keep going then if you decide to “power through.” It is far easier to prevent exhaustion, burnout, and fatigue than it is to try and recover from it later. You will actually be MORE productive individually and as a team if you recognize the need to recharge.
Ways to recharge could be as simple as:
- 5 deep breaths
- Drinking a glass of ice water
- Reading 30 minutes before bed
- Walking 20 minutes during the day
- Restarting a hobby that gives you joy
As members of a team, one of the best things you can do for each other is recognize the importance of recharge time. I hope this introduction to cultivating resilience in yourself and others helps you as much as it helped me. The people you serve need you to be your best self!

Ask ResiDex
Q: How do I hold med dosages for a certain period of time?
A: Discontinue / Restart from the “Reschedule” option under medications. Follow this link for more information: Definite Hold.
This Works Better
Medication Autocomplete
When adding a new medication from the Residents > Medication screen, the medication name field will autocomplete using records from the Global Medication List. If you select one of these autocomplete fields, and if the record has not been used for any other resident, you can toggle the controlled, psychotropic and antibiotic checkboxes without needing any extra roles.
This autocomplete function works similarly for Pharmacy Connect. When importing a Pharmacy Connect medication, you can toggle the controlled, psychotropic, and antibiotic checkboxes without needing any extra roles as long as the medication in the Global Medication List has not been used for any other residents.
